Sadly, RG only took questions from eight-year-olds today ... maybe a FAW way of responding to the Sky Sport reporter dissing their embargo last night...
As for PD - I saw him twice this season and thought he was solid.
If I genuinely thought that RG rated Taylor as a starter, I would have just about accepted this, but sadly, I really have no idea what's up with this decision... I am certainly not convinced by James Lawrence being ahead of both PD and (probably) Neil...

Just been told he refused his call up this week and will not play for Wales again
Good riddance. I hate the thought of having players in the squad who don’t want to be there fully.

Devils advocate: A premier league regular who can play both left back and centre back who repeatedly got overlooked. He should have been certainly ahead of James Lawrence, who Paul is a far superior player to.

To me, Paul is Championship level left back playing in a Premier League side who's owner refuses to fork out for better.

He can count himself unlucky for not starting against Slovakia in March, but James Lawrence didn't really put a foot wrong in that match to be fair.

He can count himself unlucky for not starting against Slovakia in March, but James Lawrence didn't really put a foot wrong in that match to be fair. He's been seriously found out since as has Vaulks, neither of which should start another qualifier. My humble/fickle opinion but I doubt it will change in the future. Sounds harsh but I want to qualify and we can only do that with quality first and foremost. Dummett plays regularly in the Premier league and should've been given more of a chance, ahead of a fair few. He's gone now anyway.

I'm not defending Dummett's decision making, but as someone who has been over looked myself in jobs I can sympathise with how he feels. We have chosen a Belgian League sub over a Premier League regular, I'd be pissed as well.

I think he'd have been called up had he done so and would've had a chance of starting if he impressed in training. He decided not to do that, so I say cheerio!

Before anyone gets carried away by saying that Dummett has retired because he was overlooked for Lawrence, needs to be remembered that Lawrence was only selected over him on one single occasion since Dummett made his debut in 2014. Once in 5 years.
In the last 5 years, Dummett has been kept out of the starting line up by the likes of Williams, Chester and Davies, more recently by Mepham.
He has constantly withdrawn from squads and has ‘made himself unavailable’ without even pretending to have an injury (credit for that I suppose) and has consistently let us down, even in times where he was likely to start (like now for example)
There are at least two occasions, maybe three, where he missed the June qualifiers because he wanted a break for the summer.Actual qualifiers, not friendlies.
Every single squad seems to prompt a ‘what’s happening with Dummett’ conversation.
Yes, if Lawrence hadn’t been selected ahead of him in that one game he might still be with us, but let’s be honest, the same would have happened in he next game or the next if he didn’t get his way.
I don’t rate Lawrence, but let’s keep him out of this and not use him to deflect from the fact that Dummett isn’t interested in playing for us, has never really been interested and we don’t need his attitude around the squad.

He said he retired the first time because he fell out with Coleman.
The crux is he doesn't want to play for Wales. It's simple.
I would die to put on that jersey as thousands of others would. Dummett would rather sit at home in Newcastle than play for us, so be it.

Bonkers that people still misread the Dumnett situation when it happens time after time. He has not been overlooked he’s just not arsed about playing for Wales and never has been. Coleman worked that out early doors.
Plenty more willing players than him so no loss.

He clearly doesn't feel Welsh - you could easily concentrate on both club & country. He's a Geordie with a Welsh link via grandparents but has obviously never felt Welsh or feels Wales is a big part of his heritage.
Why make him self available in the first place if he didn't want to play for Wales? Think this could be debated - international football at a high level will have been the big pull, like for many of our players born outside of Wales - but most buy into the culture, some do not, Paul clearly is one of them. If his hearts not in it, as frustrating as it is - at least he's being honest and drawing a line.
However he definitely shouldn't have made himself available again when Giggs came in, disrespectful to the fans and other players who do actually want to play for the shirt.

Spot on The Dummett sympathisers should take a look at themselves. He has consistently let us down when we have needed him most. Fine if he does not feel Welsh but don’t dip in and out when you feel like it and throw your toys out the pram if not automatic first choice. At least we don’t have to have a discussion over him any more.

Here's a name we haven't mentioned for a while!
Played 90 minutes+ for Newcastle tonight in their 1-0 win against Man City (EFL Cup) - a standing ovation when he hobbled off injured during the time added on.
Funny to recall, with our Gibralter friendly at The Racecourse on the horizon, that Dummett was one of our best players when there was last a game in Wrexham, against Trinidad & Tobago in 2019.
Still only 32. Could he be tempted out of international retirement? If he's good enough to hold off Pep's lads...

He wasn't prepared to join up if he wasn't in the starting eleven wasn't it? Something like that I'm sure.

I think he's actually "retired" internationally twice, to date! But, as they say: "Tri Chynnig i Gymro / Three tries for a Welshman"!
Surely worth a phonecall to him from RP?
I know that in the past there was a strong anti-Dummett feeling on here, not always fair, but a performance like his yesterday is hard to ignore, surely. Eddie Howe described him as "absolutely outstanding".
Are we really in a position to discount totally a guy who was Man of the Match against Man City? This is how he was rated last night.... Dummett: Making his first appearance in 13 months, what a performance. Focus never slipped. Brilliant tackle on Grealish in the first half that even drew applause from Guardiola.

Never go back. He’s always prioritised his club career and that’s fine. I think he got tired of being a squad filler getting little game time, but in danger of slipping further down the pecking order at club level while away during international breaks.
I seem to remember he was tempted back and played against Denmark at home and did really well before hobbling off with an injury that kept him out for a while. At that point he probably thought ‘I don’t need this’ and packed it in for good. I’d say playing for his local club (he was born there) is more important to him than being a bit part player for us. He’s moved on and so should we. Even if he was available I’d rather play one of the kids than someone who’s on his way out.
