There's probably enough space free'd up in the squad now for him to be selected so I'm not against it, I've just never really been convinced by him in a Wales shirt although I know that might not necessarily be his fault.

Fair enough, he hasn’t been incredible to be fair, I just think he does a job, Cyprus away I think him and Edwards in midfield were solid

His positioning is second to none, does all the basics very well, super high fitness levels. Not a flash player but you need soldiers in a side as well as the magic men, I’d happily see him come on for Morrell for the last 15 minutes if needed for example The only part of that I agree with is that you need foot soldiers who can do a job to complement the flashy players, I just completely disagree that Andy King does that role. He made a name for himself through his late arrivals in the box which led to a couple of brilliant goalscoring seasons for Leicester in League 1 and the Championship. He wasn't able to sustain that at club level and never did it at international level. I don't see him as someone who goes about doing his job effectively, but quietly - he's always quiet because he simply doesn't contribute. He doesn't get on the ball, doesn't set the tempo, or break up play. The fact that your best example of him doing a job for us is that 1-0 win in Cyprus, where we were very poor throughout and struggled for any fluency with Bale thankfully bailing us out, says it all

I’m not saying he was a revolution but his hard work and game intelligence helped us get some big results over the years.

Starts once again in CM for Bristol City today!
Given we only have 4 players used to playing Cdm:Cm in our squad and 2 free spaces, I’m surprised someone like King and Sheehan haven’t been included. What happens if we pick up injuries or need to bring someone off when they’re tiring, we have J James at hand, then who, Neco? The attack minded Wilson, Cooper, Harris at Cdm?

Andy King on after 24 minutes, Bristol City went on to win…
Some comments from Bristol City fans:
“Andy King changed the game today when he came on. Outstanding.“
“I thought we were the better team from the moment Andy King came on. He made a huge difference, just gave us that control and composure.“

Dear FAW #EndTheAgeistAgenda Don't be silly, I can't see anyone else calling for him to come back into the fold and there's a good reason for that - it's hardly an ageist agenda. He was very poor for us during his 'prime years' so I dread to think what an over the hill Andy King, who's in and out of a championship side, would look like. We've discussed this a couple of times before. I know you think he was one of those solid professionals every team needs who diligently went about his work and did a lot of good stuff that went unnoticed. I completely disagree, I don't think he was that type of player at all. I just think he was anonymous 90% of the time and very rarely had an influence on proceedings. He was a passenger.

Nonsense! We wouldn’t have qualified for France without the likes of Andy King, you can’t be anonymous at intl level and contribute as much as he did, never put a foot wrong hardly gives the ball away #Fact

Does the red card against Cyprus count as putting a foot wrong? Or maybe it was two feet wrong?

Does the red card against Cyprus count as putting a foot wrong? Or maybe it was two feet wrong? Yes, I was going to bring that up. But the bigger point is not where he put a foot wrong, just where he didn't get a foot in at all. Games just passed him by. The main example that's been brought up in the past as evidence of his contribution was that 1-0 win out in Cyprus where King and Dave Edwards started (I think, all of Allen, Ramsey and Ledley were out). I think that game actually shows the opposite. We were never able to assert any dominance in that game. There was no fluency to our performance and we struggled for chances. The midfield was really poor and we had to rely on a moment of brilliance from Bale. I actually rated Dave Edwards, he always put a shift in, but King just didn't contribute.

Fair point with the red card!
On cyprus away in the scorching heat, we got a clean sheet which enabled us to go on and get a win. King was asked to sit deep and do a defensive role, and he did that! I think you underestimate the discipline and intelligence needed to have a good game positionally in Cdm role, to communicate with your teammates, hold a good shape, be defensively sound. A team player, always gives his all….
‘Outstanding’ the other day, at championship level, that’s more than you can say than most of our midfielders atm!

Luckily we have enough players emerging to not have to go back to picking ageing players out of the international wilderness. I admire Cadno's love of King and enjoy reading the updates and argument for his inclusion but for me the likes of Ampadu, Morrell, Ramsey, Wilson, James, Levitt, Taylor, Lowery, Savage and even Taylor-Clarke are ahead of him in the pecking order for a chance in central midfield.
