Danny Ward and Ben Woodburn both wanted by Cookie but reports saying they are staying put. I'm sure that'll change in 6 weeks time.

A loan to Sunderland would be beneficial to both Ward and Woodburn, surely Liverpool have to see that its more beneficial than U23s football?

A bit of a backward step for Ward after last season but better than reserve football. Klopp won't let him go though and will use him in the FA cup until Liverpool crash out in the 4th round. Still can't believe he didn't allow him on loan to Huddersfield. Woodburn might be allowed to go. We'll see.

Does anyone know why Ward does not want to go? It's a loan move so even if they do get relegated It will be a learning curve and surely he will be kept busy!

"However, Woodburn won’t be joined by Welsh compatriot Danny Ward who rejected a move to the Stadium of Light"
Ouch! Cookie gets a glass of milk to the face. Once he commanded their loyalty as the national boss....now they're presumably apologising for turning him down....
In all seriousness, it would have been a decent move in my view. He'd have got a lot of shot stopping practice.

Probably fancies himself against Mingolet and Karius. And why not? Or believes he's good enough for a top Championship or a Premiership team, which is fair enough.

Happy new year everyone.
Woodburn makes the bench for Liverpool today.

The move make good sense, and the lad will be taken care of and used on a regular basis. Whether or not Klopp can afford to let him go, while also losing Coutinho et el, is another matter

Doesn’t even make the bench tonight. A sure sign he’s off soon.

To avoid being cup tied elsewhere? How long before the cameras show opposite fans French kissing?

Liverpool are sending players on loan all over the shop but I'd rather Ben go somewhere other than Sunderland after watching their shit show against Cardiff. Zero attacking intent and not one shot on target, what's he going to learn there?

Should have sent Ben down to Cardiff in the car with Grujic earlier, could have squeezed in Ward while they were at it too

Looks like the move to Sunderland (or anywhere else) is off...Sky reporting:
SUNDERLAND’S WOODBURN BID FAILS
Sunderland have failed in an attempt to sign Liverpool winger Ben Woodburn on-loan, Sky Sports News understands.
Chris Coleman was keen to borrow his compatriot until the summer but Jurgen Klopp needs him following the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.
As a result, Woodburn will remain at Anfield unless Liverpool are able to bring in further signings in the forward area.

So frustrating that he isn't been given a chance at Liverpool yet they aren't willing for him to go out on loan.

Relax, he's only 18. It'll be time to panic if this is still the case when he's 21

Stuff patience! The great players, even our own great players, were playing in first teams before they were 18. The guy had all the momentum in the World last year, I can't imagine how he must've felt on cloud nine with us and than going back to sitting in the stands. I don't think that's great development...

It'll be time to panic if this is still the case when he's 21 Sessegnon is younger than Woodburn and is currently ripping up the Championship, something I've no doubt Woodburn could do if given the chance. No time to relax, the boy needs regular first team football to continue his development and reach the elite level we all hope he can.

Is this evidence that something is wrong with the you development structure of the English pyramid? Klopp was renowned at developing youth in Germany. Yet at Liverpool, he appears to be holding players back. Is the Premier League simply too competitive for it to also be a productive breeding ground for young players?
Perhaps in England (and English based Welsh clubs), the category system needs an immediate review. Perhaps it should be down to the FA and FAW to make sure that all pro clubs are up to scratch with their DVP systems and ditch the monopoly of Category One teams? I can see why they opted for the system that they have, but it doesn't seem to be working. I think it would only work if the standard and competitiveness of the top two divisions was much lower.

The category system makes it pointless for non-Category 1 clubs to have an academy
