I cannot see Tom Lawrence opting for England now.
But our esteemed manager needs to build for the future & should have brought him on against Holland.

If we don't beat Andorra and Cyrpus then questions should be asked, things should be looked at, I can't predict the future but I do think we can do well in this group. If we can't beat both of them we don't deserve a national team and we might as well give Steve Tucker a call. Seriously though, Andorra represents a great chance to get off to a flyer and get some of the younger players capped in a qualifier.

After the game I think Coleman said he "couldn't" bring Lawrence on. I've yet to establish why. There's no way he could have lost count of the number of substitutions he'd made or was allowed is there? Either way he should have been given a chance ahead of Easter.

I think that's precisely what happened...

What other reason could there be for using the word "couldn't"? Of course he could, unless he cocked up, so that he couldn't any more.

If you thought football was bad under toshack good job your not old enough to remember goulds era, tosh's team played like the 70's Brazil team compared to goulds sides! All about opinions I know, but the football under Toshack was much better than it was under Sparky. I accept that there were some games under Toshack where performances were not good enough (e.g. Ireland away & Finland home) and some lacked intensity. But games such as the 2-1 loss out in Russia showed we owe Toshack our future. I realise I am preaching to the converted with some, including yourself.

I really hope Tom tells them to go and take a running jump. This would be a psychological blow if one of our own decided to jump ship to boost their chance of playing in a championship/get a higher profile. It is really a sad state of affairs if England continue to target young Welsh talent instead of developing their own across their vastly larger pool. Can't wait to see them try the same thing with a Scottish youngster!
Does anyone know the lad? How passionate is Tom about Wales?

Conversely it would be a huge boost if he publicly announces he only wants to play for Wales (and tells the Welsh Uncle Tom supporting England World Cup lot in so doing that we have a Welsh team and have our own ambitions).
There was a guy on the Welsh football fans Facebook page who claimed to know Tom Lawrence and that he ain't for turning. This forum is promoted there incidentally.

Would it be for the same reason that a Belgium fixture prior to the World Cup was downgraded from a friendly to a practice match as one team made 7 substitutions. One more than the maximum of 6. Perhaps Coleman miscounted. When he realised there was nothing he could do.

What evidence is there at all that suggests he would opt to play for another country? Just wondering. Surely he wouldn't have turned up and sat on the bench if he had any kind of reservations.

I live near Wrexham and it is a very proud Welsh town (unlike the shithole I live in) So I cannot see Lawrence even considering playing for England. Ask yourself, would you if you were in his position, knowing that you would get destroyed by your hometown, family and friends for even considering it? He would be a pariah in his own country, and judging by what people have been saying about the guy, then I don't think he would even entertain such a ridiculous idea.

Tom Lawrence born in Wrexham but brought up in Penyffordd in Flintshire This is very interesting. I used Oswestry as my base during the recent Urdd Eisteddfod in Bala. What amazed me about Oswestry was the amount of Welsh streetnames. Maybe being raised in Oswestry is not good enough reason to play for England?

Please no! I hate this as I went through it with Collison and Jonny Williams. I will not be able to relax until he finally gets on in a qualifier. I just hope he plays the Andorra game and I would even consider him as a starter, why not? I would guess that Coleman said beofre the Holland game, something like: 'Come and join the squad you don't have to play but see how you feel afterwards'. There's no other explanation for him not playing some part in that one.

Hang on....Southgate expresses an interest in him (understandable), and he's eligible to play for England so he's entitled to keep his options open (whatever we think about that). But he hasn't said anything about the story, yet some people are on his case?

I'm not getting on his case but i don't remember a time when someone was called up elsewhere and we chased them after that, but I'm willing to be corrected there. What happened tot he 'gentleman's agreement' between the British nations? Surely this agreement would cover a player who has already been called up to the full national squad? What the hell is Southgate up to?

But he hasn't said anything about the story, yet some people are on his case? I was thinking this too. Only Southgate has said that he would call up Lawrence should he want to play for England, there is nothing wrong with that seeing as he does qualify for England and looks like a quality player. The player or anyone in both camps haven't said anything, this is just a non story. I highly doubt he will play for England.

Can anyone provide a link to actual quotes from southgate? I've seen a couple of articles, but zero quotes. Seems like agent driven promotional stuff to me.
