I really rate the lad and think the level he is playing at is plenty good enough for a call up. I just don't think he's quite getting the regular games he'd need for a call up yet. 5 appearances so far this season out of a possible 13 games. He's getting there, but would probs need to be starting a higher number of games to displace the squad regulars at the moment I agree. If you take a look at the central midfielders who do get called up fairly regularly, there's only Levitt who I'd potentially replace with Burton at this moment in time. The rest of our central midfielders are playing in the Championship, Serie A or are Matt Smith & Jonny Williams who are shoe-ins after the last couple of matches for me. Even with Levitt he seems to be a regular since joining Charlton. Although, I will say that with a couple of injuries perhaps Burton could find his way into the reckoning

Starts again today. Gotta be called up this time surely? And drop Levitt?
Is that even an option?

Starts again today. Gotta be called up this time surely? I'll try and catch some of it during half time of the United vs Arsenal game - to be fair I'd be up for calling him up as he can't be far off Vaulks/Levitt now

Definitely making more of a case for himself than Levitt, but would Giggs drop his golden boy?

Definitely making more of a case for himself than Levitt, but would Giggs drop his golden boy? Again, he is being played a little more forward - in the Joe Allen position. Really positive and very commanding in the middle of the park. If there is one thing that is a shortcoming in his game, is his aerial presence, especially from set pieces.
Yes. He is only 1.76m, but being short has never been an issue for our wee Joe!
Also, he picked up a soft yellow in the first half, so chances are he might be taken off in the second half, seeing that this is the local derby and tempers are running quite high ...

Tuned in just in time to see him get subbed off! Was on a yellow so it's understandable. The two minutes I saw of him though he did look quite nimble around the pitch and surprisingly fast for a CM. Still he's doing well to be involved for a team like Dinamo Zagreb

He looked decent enough last week even after 90' - so really feel that he is in decent fitness.

I’d rather he got a place in the squad over Vaulks who is way off the pace for Cardiff at the moment.

I'd really like to see him, and think he deserves a call up now. If he is to replace someone, it has to be Levitt for me (yes I bang on about the kid a lot), as even Charlton fans don't rate him at all and he's been extremely poor for them. The kid is nowhere near ready - whereas Burton is getting actually senior minutes and playing reasonably well from the reports.
However I think the Covid issue will play a part in whether he gets called up or not.

Tricky one, as Vaulks has a lot of footballing experience and is a leader, which is always good to have in a young squad. Burton is certainly ahead of Levitt for me though so I would be disappointed to see Levitt making the side ahead of him. Even though I didn't include Burton in my squad, seeing him there would bring a smile to my face.

Big win for Dinamo tonight in Europa league, 0-3 away to Wolfsberger.
Robbie came on for last three minutes, to help seal the victory ;-)

I assume that Robbie's the guy in the middle. If so, perhaps not the best picture to share...

He's had a long spell out of the starting line-up, only starting in cup games or coming off the bench for 2 min cameos, but he started in a 2-0 win in the league last night.
Hopefully he'll get a decent run in the first team and earn himself a call up for the friendly in March.

He's played 11 senior games so far this season. Will probably end the season on around 20 games. A decent first season there

Started for Zagreb today. Would love to see him line up against Spurs’ Welsh Mafia in a couple of weeks.

It’s a shame the fixtures have been reversed for this fixture, as it would have meant that he would have been in the UK ready for the international break which would have helped with any quarantine rules or whatever.

The bad news is he didn't come off the bench (he barely ever comes off the bench) and isn't getting much game time at all.
The good news is one of Dinamo's midfielders went off injured yesterday, so depending on how serious it is, that's one less player in his way.
But from what I can tell, he's at best their 4th choice sitting midfielder, behind Ademi (who got the injury), Jakic and Franjic (Ademi and Jakic started the match, and Franjic came on for Ademi). The few times he's started appears to be when at least two of these have been benched.
If Ademi is out for a while Burton might get some more opportunities off the bench, but there could also be other players above him in the pecking order that I've missed.
While I applaud him for going out there in search of first team football, it appears to have backfired a bit. Most of these midfielders above him are relatively young themselves, so it doesn't seem as if they're easing him in to take over next season. Unless one or two get sold, I'm not really sure what his long term prospects are at the club.

He's had more senior games than he would have been given at Arsenal. He'll get more games next year as well. I trust Zagreb with his development, they have a great track record. Way too early to say it was a mistake - 14 senior games so far this season. If he gets more next season that's something

If he gets more next season that's something 14 appearances looks decent at face value, but dig deeper and see that quite a few of them are 2 minute cameos at the end of games. And as I said, the biggest issue is the amount of players ahead of him in the pecking order. Franjic and Jakic are 21 and 23 respectively, with Franjic only breaking through into the first team properly this season and Jakic signed in the summer (6 months after Burton signed), so neither likely to be leaving the club soon. And while Ademi is older at 29, he's the club captain. Where is Burton going to get his chance if he's stuck behind the captain and two young players who they clearly rate higher than him? I'm all for being optimistic, and I hope you're right and he gets more minutes next season, but I just don't see it happening unless there's an injury crisis or one or two of the three ahead of him leave the club in the summer.

Yeah but if those players perform well clubs will come in and sign them. They are a conveyor belt club. We'll see how it goes but I expected him to take a year or two to be a regular

It’s still 14 sub appearances more than he’d have got at Arsenal. I’m not saying he’ll definitely make it out there, but I do think it’s too early to say that he’s made a mistake. Especially as most of our other midfielders are struggling to get much more game time with clubs in League 1 and 2
