First up: Cewri Cwpan y Byd tonight at 2100 1.5hr documentary on the last 18 years of the National team That's the evening's entertainment sorted Well it was a little narrative heavy. I'd have liked a bit more focus on the football side when they were talking about Speed. Kind of surprised there was no mention of Dafydd Iwan. Also they muted Nic and Malc's legendary commentary for most of the goals they decided to show, which was disappointing. But on the whole it was a pretty good watch.

I think what they meant was that BBC Wales also have quite a few pre-World Cup programmes lined up over the coming weeks. Apologies, didn't know that, where we live our TV defaults to BBC North West England and you have to go searching in the 900's amongst the adult channels to find BBC Wales. “I’m just trying to find BBC Wales love, honest!” 🤔 I’ll remember that one myself next time 😂

At least my flag got a showing on the Toshack programme.
First time I have seen it since I put it up in the attic about ten years ago!
As hand luggage size was reduced by the airlines there was barely enough room for your clothes never mind a bloody big flag!!

The really sad thing, well for me anyway, watching the programme was Bale coming off the pitch with his arm around he who shall not be mentioned.
Just how many goals would Ched have scored for Wales if it wasn't for "I'm going to buy a new Mini Cooper with my claim"

Another great instalment of Together Stronger tonight. On iPlayer if you missed it Very emotional at the end to see Rambo getting upset that Speed isn't here to us at a World Cup. Brought a tear to my eye that did

Just as an aside to this thread I hope the people who aren't going to Qatar stick with S4c and don't switch their allegiances to the big two for the World Cup.
Even for non Welsh speakers it will be a better experience than listening to ITV and BBC droning on about England within the first five minutes of any game, regardless of who is actually playing.

I'm planning to stick with S4C for the Wales games, but will obviously still watch BBC/ITV for the others. Agreed the constant discussion of England even when not playing will be tiresome, these outlets will also bring politics into it more.

Another S4C programme I'm watching tonight is Pob cam i Qatar - going through the whole qualifying campaign (half way through the hour). Reminds us of the times when things were a little ropey on the way to this chatter this week. Gareth's less than-stylish-hattrick not in Belarus, inability to score again Estonia at home, Gwennan's firm views about Ward's own goal vs the Czechs. But also the goal in Belgium and that reminder than DJ can score (please can we play the Czechs again soon).
Come on Cymru and S4C and y Wal Goch, some more memories to gladden us all over the next few weeks please.

If we had our own media and tv like every country should instead of being forced to be british with countrymen who suffer from Westminster Stockholm syndrome we could enjoy the World Cup regardless of if England won it as just like they should be it’s a different country and not ours. Imagine if we had our own strong league and all our teams played in it instead of in England we would then realise that how they do should be as irrelevant to us as how Brazil or Ireland or Scotland or Fiji do In competitions.
Would love to see Croatia win it. I feel like that’s a win for football and cements Modrić as a great. They’d totally prove me 10000% wrong. I’d love it if we played the world champs game 1 in qualifying.

And do they show every World Cup game live and free? No. So our public has to take on board the opinions of another nation who’s opinions should be alien to us. Why can’t we watch Brazil v Croatia on welsh language tv or welsh English language tv? Why do we have this English coverage on welsh tv?

So you want a BBC or ITV just for Wales 😂 you do realise that almost 70 million People pay towards the BBC right? If Wales had its on station ( which we do in S4C) that’s about as good as it would get considering there would be little money to fund it.
im guessing the reason S4C are not showing every game is they simply can’t afford it and the viewing figures for a Welsh language programme would be about 300k ish instead of 19 million.

How do other countries with similar populations and less money manage it then?

Similar to S4C that’s my point. You won’t get a BBC or an ITV style production with only max viewing figures of 300 to 400 thousand. Also a lot of other Countries have state like TV payed for by the Government. The BBC has its knockers but is still one of the best TV companies in the World.

Currently the BBC funds most of S4C public money and helps them broadcast quite a lot of their programs.

No- they show all 64 games. So not similar to S4C. But youre of course right about production etc. Though a studio, a few pundits and beamed in games needn’t cost a lot.
Anyway, Ive travelled enough to never get worked up about bias at BBC/ITV.

Yeah, I suppose we’ve got to accept that they’re naturally going to be biased so no point worrying about it. The ‘best chance in ages as Morocco would be in the semi final’ comments particularly came back to haunt them haha.
Also I did chuckle at them mocking Portugal for blaming the ref and the fans mocked them for crying, literally a few hours before they complained about the ref in the France game and we’re in tears themselves.

If we were independent with our own television channels we wouldn't be paying the same amount for broadcasting rights as England does. Would be interesting to know how much Ireland pays for World Cup football coverage.

Yep, so much solipsism it´s unreal. Also the commentary on ITV is horrendous. Every basic thing an England player does that you would expect any half decent player to do with ease and they talk it up like it's an event that has helped to shape the course of human history. It honestly hurt my head yesterday because it grated like fingernails on a blackboard. Someone on another forum nailed it with that Matterface twunt when they said that every sentence he comes out with is structured like he hopes it will be the next "They think it's all over, it is now!". Just rancid and I'm surprised that even England fans can put up with it without finding it an embarrassment to them but they obviously do because he keeps getting his contract renewed. I'll bet he's a bit more reserved now that England have gone out mind!

Well I can’t imagine any tv company surviving let alone being any good on less than £150 per person from a maximum of 500 thousand people. Ireland have 5 million population. Any Welsh language channel would only have a maximum audience of 500 thousand.

Let’s not forget the huge fanfair that went around our first qualifying since 58.

I meant that if you think BBC & ITV are biased, try other countries. There’s far worse. Maybe not as ungracious. What is interesting, is that in South America it does appear to be squarely behind Argentina now.

Aberbeeg my point is really nothing to do with itv or bbc. I’m trying to say I wish we were an independent nation. I can’t see people in Slovenia enjoying the Croatia World Cup coverage , the people in Switzerland enjoying the French, thee Dutch don’t watch the German coverage, the population of Lithuania aren’t watching the Russian coverage they all have their own tv so why must we have television made for another country disguised as something called British?
