A massive match today for James v Club Bruges. They haven't lost to them at home in 21 years... Good to see James starting again. His fifth full game this year, since coming back from injury in late January.
EDIT
I only saw 50 minutes or so and, once again, a bit of a mixed bag. Just when I am starting to warm to him in the centre of a back 5, he goes and loses the ball cheaply or simply doesn't close down well. I didn't see the first goal (after 5') but seeing it was from Wesley (which he marked) I imagine James might have had something to do with it. That said, he did keep him quiet for the rest of the first half and had plenty of flying tackles and clearances.
He certainly could have done better for the Bruges' second equaliser. Not entirely his own fault, but still...
An option for the 23, but will need to convince me if he wants to be in the 11.
Will there be a stream for Anderlechts game today?

This was James' 6th straight 90' in the last four weeks, since returning from injury. The new Anderlecht coach, obviously rates him higher than his predecessor, that was hoping to sell him during the Winter break.
He was fairly solid and had a few good blocks / clearances... However, once again, when really put under pressure in defence, his challenge was easily shrugged off and he was squarely at fault for the goal they conceded.
Anderlecht appeared to switch to a back four, after half time, with James as left CB - which he is obviously less comfortable with.
Nonetheless, Anderlecht live to fight another day, and if they win both their next two upcoming games, they will make it into the Play Offs - Premier League play-offs to determine the Champion ...

Seems to be Championship quality, I'm still surprised that Bolasie plays for Andarlecht.

Forest and Derby would beat Twente 8 times in 10.
Most top flight Dutch teams would struggle in the championship

Had another 90' today. I only saw the last 30' - but James looked comfortable and solid.
With our injuries at the back, James certainly merits a place in the squad. Especially as he is so versatile.

Its the final match of the season and a must-win for Anderlecht, to qualify in the top-6 and go into the play-offs. They are currently in 5th, put only 1 point away from 7th... KO is 5pm sebn.live/sebn-29.html (full screen is TOP right corner)

Played another 90'. Anderlecht end the season at 4th, ahead of AA Gent ;-) He is starting to grow on me, but I still think his defending is not up to being in a back 4. He could be a potential deputy for Dummett, but only in a back 5. I know he was touted as a potential defensive mid-fielder. I really can't see that. Despite his size and mobility, he doesn't read the game that well for me.
Nonetheless, his fitness has improved volumes over the last two months and he does seem to enjoy carrying the ball forward. Also decent in the air.
Good to have him in the squad, but he is not in my first eleven.

In all the years I have been watching football I can't ever recall seeing a player with a gum shield before.

In all the years I have been watching football I can't ever recall seeing a player with a gum shield before. Somebody tweeted saying he was chewing bubble gum. I saw him on the touchline after a clash of heads and was surprised to see him using one. Maybe he's had some dental work done......

In all the years I have been watching football I can't ever recall seeing a player with a gum shield before. For what it's worth Shaun Taylor of Bristol City and Swindon Town wore one religiously. He was your typical horrible bastard centre back so it might have just been part of his schtick to put strikers off their game.

Anderlecht played Genk (the league leaders) in the first round of the play offs.
James was actually very good in the first half and got a lot of praise from the commentator.
James could have done better than to turn his back when trying to block the 2nd goal. He really should have done better for the 3rd goal.
That said, Genk are a really good side... They looked clinical on the break.
Ended 3-0 The 9th loss of the season for Anderlecht ...

James starting again v Club Bruges, at home,
At least partially responsible in both goals in the first half. First one when his goalie sold him really cheaply, but he really should have cleared to a corner. Second, losing his mark on a very tight VAR descision.
James, and Anderlecht, played well in the second half, but still lost 2-3.
He must really miss havng Smith/Allen in front of him ;-)
The only Champions League he will see next year, is if he comes back to his beloved Arsenal ;-)

He seems to be at fault more quite a few of their goals. I'm quite concerned about this if he's going to start again!

This is a concern. It's understandable if manager's want to reward players who have performed well for them, so it would be unsurprising if Giggs were to select Lawrence again. But his pedigree for Wales is essentially one meaningful game - in which he was well protected by Allen and Smith. That has to be set against any concerns about his club form. Unless that's in good shape then Williams or Chester should come back in to the side (if they too are playing regularly and well for their club sides). Assuming none of the above (nor Ampadu) are playing regularly and well, then if Rodon is playing regularly by the end of the season (quite possibly) he could be a serious consideration to play alongside Mepham - not least because they're familiar with each other's game from their U21s experience. I hope Giggs doesn't make Coleman's mistake of becoming overly loyal. The start to Giggs' Wales manager tenure suggests he's willing to shake things up, and field players on form and fitness - long may that continue.

We will be set up extremely defensively in Croatia, which suggests that either Ash or Chester will come in for Lawrence, with Ampadu, Smith & Allen potentialiy all playing in front of them. How we approach Hungary will be partly based on the Croatian result, but I feel Giggs will want to attack them a lot more. Either way I don’t think Lawrence starts either game.

If Ash and Chester still aren't playing regularly by the end of the season (looks likely), Lawrence will start against Croatia. If we go five at the back then Ash or Dummett will come into the starting 11.

A little harsh on James to be subbed at half-time. Half his body was playing the Antwerp goal-scorer on-side, so slightly to blame for the Antwerp equaliser.
His sub at half-time is the Belgian teen-age promise, that was out since Christmas with an injury, but played every game up until then.
It is yet to be seen if James has now lost his place in the pecking order, especially when playing 4-3-3 as they desprately need to start winning.
Lost again today, so that is 3 in 3 in the play-offs ;-(
First time they have lost at home to Antwerp (and to Standard last week) since their 1997 season...
Come home to the Arsenal, James

James keeping his place in the starting XI - but they are away to Standard tonight, which is not going to be easy for them ...
EDIT Match stopped after 25' following at least a dozen smoke bombs thrown on the pitch.
After 6' Lawrence was thanking his lucky VAR for a goal being disallowed - a player that left him for dead was judged to have been a toe off-side...
After 21' a shot went through his legs and was saved off the line...
Both the actual Liege goals were not his fault though ;-)

OH, DEAR!
More smoke bombs and the ref had enough. With Anderlecht being 2-0 down and with ten men, he stopped the match after 31'.
Talk of a more than the regular 3-0 sanction this time.
Whatever the case may be, AFTER UNINTERRUPTED EUROPEAN FOOTBALL SINCE 1955, Anderlecht will not be playing in any European competitions next season. They have broken many records this season. Lost the last 12 out of 13 and lost to teams that they have never lost to before.
Come back to Arsenal, James ;-)

James played another 90' again, keeping his place, despite the arrival of yet a new manager (third this season) ...
Seems to be very fit and full of running - often making runs into the box. A shame about the nil-nil match though - and thank God I only saw the last 45' minutes of it '=(
Anderlecht received a €50,000 penalty as well as one match to be played behind closed doors, for the crowd disturbance. It will only be decided on Thursday whether they will also forfeit the match 3-0 or 5-0.

Got another new boss
None other than Vincent Company, wow.
Could go either way though as he’s player-manager so he could either be playing alongside him or Company could be taking his place

Fifth match in a row this season that James is not in the match day squad. Hopefully, he will be on his way to another European team, before the end of the Window.
Last I heard, there was some interest from Turkey.
