You couldn't make it up ... Following in the footsteps of our Ethan ... well ... in the same country, at least... Our Jamie got himself a season long loan out to St Pauli, a team in the second German division. They had one season in the Bundesliga in the last 20 years (2010/11). If you have ever been to Hamburg ... you might remember it ...
OH, AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JAMIE ;-))

Not good enough. Should never have been capped I guess but he was definitely worth a look and trying in a friendly. Increasing the player pool is no bad thing and we can't knock Giggs for that.

Certainly seems a very strange call up from a neutral perspective. I'd imagine Rodon and maybe even Poole will be ahead of him in the pecking order soon enough?

The Flemish media keeps on going on about the five-time Welsh international ... Embarrassing ...

I thought he was excellent against Slovakia.
Hasn't Kompany taken his place in the Anderlecht team? No disgrace in that.

I know some people are slagging him off even though he turns up and plays he is similar in this regard to Crofts or the Carl’s but the guy turns up and has the bottle to do moves like this and get the most out of his career. Good luck to him I think he will be in his prime 31-35 and he will become a very solid player

May I simply state, for the record, that the only reason I allow myself to be mildly critical of Jamie, is that I have actually seen him play at least a dozen times for Anderlecht and have also read many Flemish articles about him.
Any player who wears the Welsh jersey has my full support, when wearing red or playing for their team.

I respect the way he has forged himself a career but he is not good enough for Wales and probably never will be.
Should never have started ahead of other players and one of Giggs' bigger mistakes.

In that case Gabbidon is an idiot

Nothing against him personally and I felt that there were several factors leading up to that own goal (besides Lawrence's blunder) in June, but on current form and in comparison to several other contenders for the same position, I don't think he should take precedence. He probably remains a suitable bench option.
At this stage, I would expect to see an improvement in our overall play since Giggs took on the job nearly two years ago, especially given the talent we have at our disposal, and the fact that several players have now upgraded to the Premier League and have made an impressive start. Rodon and Connor are also putting in a shift at Swansea who are flying in the Championship.
It would be a mistake to include Lawrence over Rodon in my view and anything less than a convincing win would be cause for concern.

Gabbidon makes valid points about consistency in selection, and Lawrence wasn't that bad in the Hungary game - with Davies being the main culprit for their goal. But his lack of game time is a massive consideration - as it will be for a fair few of the other options. For that reason alone Rodon has to come into serious consideration. Given that he's played many a game at U21 level alongside Mepham, and the opposition is Azerbaijan, this partnership is a strong option. The only realistic alternatives are dropping Ampadu back into the back four, or moving Davies inside. But both have a lack of minutes under their belts - so a Rodon Mepham partnership is probably the best we can manage under the circumstances. Not an ideal way to make your debut, but I think Rodon is already a better player than Lawrence (who will be playing second tier footie in Germany), so I'm warming to this possibility.

Jamie stating today and its on BT Sport 3. Playing in a back three, which certainly suited him best at Anderlecht as well. Had a couple of straight forward clearances and a couple of decent cross field passes - difficult to assess his fitness, as he doesn't seem to have the license to go forward, that he did at Anderlecht.

Assist from Mats Moller Daehli. I remember him being billed as the next big thing in Norway when Solskjaer brought him to Cardiff.
Good to see him getting off to a good start for St Pauli. I personally wouldn't start him moving forward, but I hope he continues to improve and becomes a solid option for us.

Starting again and completing the full 90' again ;-)
I only saw the first 30' and then that last 15'
St Pauli were cruising away to Dresden at 0-3 after 25' ... and then Dresden had a player sent off ... and somehow it ended 3-3. I thought only Cardiff City can be that bad ...
Jamie is certainly at top levels of fitness, judging by his box to box running in the last 15'. He had two decent chances to score and cleared/intercepted at least five or six of theirs.
His stats on this will be very misleading 6/10 - as he was very involved in the game and admittedly, sprayed a few poor passes as well as some great ones.
FCSP are certainly easier on the eye than what Schalka were last year ...

St Pauli won the Hamburg derby last night for the first time in 59 years, beating Hamburg 2-0 in a fiercely contested game.
Lawrence played the whole 90 mins and played very well, apparently getting into Kicker's 'team of the day'.

A decent backup at centre half, but we need to build the Rodon Mepham partnership.

Sankt Pauli coach yesterday: "James Lawrence was able to intensify the training. He will initially do some adapted training next week, but should fully start training in the team towards the end of the week."

Way down the pecking order is harsh on Vaulks He was out of his depth in Croatia. Has he been playing well for Cardiff? Allen, Morrell, Ampadu, Smith, King, Huws & Joniesta are all ahead of him for me.
