Any idea how many caps Earnshaw has? History page on FAW website says 59 but elsewhere I've seen 58.

17 caps, 9 goals at one point. Can't help but conclude that Earnie's Wales career fizzled out badly. Should have reached 20 goaps for us

Would be interesting to see how many of those appearances were off the bench. I'd bet that he won't have clocked many minutes in the last few years of his international career.

Earnshaw seems to be quite annoyed that Wikipedia shows his caps as 58 rather than 59. He's tweeted about it tonight, and he tweeted recently asking how to contact Wikipedia to correct the error.
Shows he's proud of his international career.

Ernie is an example for today's squad to follow for 2 reasons - 1.Spoke out against Team GB in 2012. 2.Did NOT pull out of squads with obscure injuries.Got 59 caps despite several times dropped and omitted for last 3 years.

Doing research on all Welsh players past and present. Have you done anything on the two players called Joe Davies? Their careers overlapped, one played for Ardwick and the other for Newton Heath. Both are now known as the two Manchester clubs. Wikipedia has them both down as dying on the exact same day (7/10/43) which sounds way too bizarre. I emailed Ceri (FAW historian) who said one was date of death unknown. I contacted an amateur historian of the Manchester clubs and he believes they were most likely mixed up. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Davies_%28footballer,_born_1864%29 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Davies_%28footballer_born_1866%29(For some reason it really doesn't like the comma in that first link. Use this instead bit.ly/1JCrnWg or copy and paste it in.

Robbo is a top lad. Remember him well, we played in the same youth team (when Wolves let him) and he was always very down to earth and a likeable person. I wish him all the best, he has a great life over there and his proving a success and boy could we do with some good young managers coming through.

He has done well for himself. Never set the world on fire, Tosh loved him as he turned up every time and did as he was told. So got plenty of caps under Tosh.

Obviously from Radnor for you to use that term Nah, he can't be from Radnor with a comment like that. If he was from Radnor he would have described CR as being "not sa baadd, like".

Although I have a negative comment about CR in my signature, I loved him as well because he always turned up and gave it his all for his country. He got 50 caps, but there were numerous other times where he was called up to the squad, gone to some far flung country only to sit on the bench for 90 minutes. Always gave 100% on the pitch. He's a true professional.

Today's shit news but maybe one person will care news is..... Carl Robinson is a pundit on Canadian Tv for the Portugal game. Its usually Jason de vos and some English guy called kristian Jack. He's probably there as Vancouver played Toronto last night and it's broadcast from Toronto. Their calling him robbo but despite this he is respected in Canadian football and he's coming across like he really knows his shit. A step above the usual pundits here. Conducted himself great

It's weird until today it's been the same 2 pundits every game. I'm 90% of this I've only missed 2 games. So it should tell you what they think of Carl Robinson out here as soon as he was available for one they dropped someone. He's probably Bern very busy with Vancouver for Wales games

Who saw his interview on Clwb (S4C) last night? He is very rare in being both passionate and articulate in equal measure in interview.

Don't suppose that you have a link to the EatSleepFootieRepeat interviews?

Sorry to be a pedant Cadno!!! Just thought I'd chuck your post in here as this thread is enlightening on CR and you also have good posts in here too. Hope you don't mind!... Cadno's post... ....................................................................... Some interesting videos and articles. www.whitecapsfc.com/post/2016/06/15/robinson-helped-guide-golden-generation-welsh-soccerwww.youtube.com/watch?v=spuN_UaJ6KMOsian Roberts clearly rates him: "It will be interesting to see Carl Robinson's next step, I'm sure he'll have an eye on the Wales job in the future, and I'm sure a time will come where Carl will get that privilege. He's going to be careful how he develops his career and develops as a manager because of his hard work and his knowledge." It might be a bit early for him now, but he's my no.1 choice at the moment - definitely ahead of Henry, Bellamy or Giggs. Golden cap- www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Md1EJYyFRI................................................. Going through this thread reminded me of Robinson's credentials and I now come to the conclusion that he should get the job. Young enough to be idealistic and to stick to the job for two tournament cycles, which I can't see any of the other candidates doing. Passionate about Wales, which IS essential. Has good experience and pedigree, but not proven himself so much to the point that he is unavailable. Not only do I reckon Robinson should be our next manager, I think he probably will be our next manager and stuck a bet on at 14-1 which I never usually do.

Carl Robinson contract runs until 2020 (Whitecaps must like him)... .............................................. Whitecaps FC re-sign first-team coach Carl Robinson www.whitecapsfc.com/post/2016/10/26/whitecaps-fc-re-sign-first-team-coachesVANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday that the club has extended the contract of head coach Carl Robinson through 2020. Assistant coaches Martyn Pert and Gordon Forrest have also agreed to multi-year contract extensions. - Qualified for MLS Cup Playoffs and won the Cascadia Cup in two of his first three seasons - Won the club’s first Voyageurs Cup after winning the 2015 Amway Canadian Championship - Qualified as the top seed in the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals “The 2017 season started for us as soon as the final whistle went on Sunday,” said Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi. “Today’s announcement is a statement that everyone is committed to the vision of our club. “Carl’s body of work over the course of his five years at the club has shown that he is one of the top up-and-coming head coaches in North America. While this past season was certainly a learning experience for everyone involved within the club, we have complete faith in Carl’s continued vision in acquiring the necessary players to build a team that will compete with the best in MLS.” n his three seasons at the helm, Robinson has led Whitecaps FC to two MLS Cup playoff appearances, including the club’s first-ever home playoff match in MLS, and two Cascadia Cup titles. Robinson also managed Whitecaps FC to their first-ever Voyageurs Cup and first two appearances in the CONCACAF Champions League, where they will compete in the quarterfinals as the top seed this coming February. The native of Llandrindod Wells, Wales joined the club as a first team assistant coach in 2012 following two seasons as a player/coach with the New York Red Bulls. Among the key players acquired during Robinson’s tenure are MLS leading tackler the past three seasons in Matias Laba, 2015 MLS Defender of the Year runner-up and 2016 MLS All-Star Kendall Waston, and two-time FIFA World Cup midfielder Christian Bolaños. This past season, Robinson signed the first two players to make the jump from Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) in Canadians Alphonso Davies and Brett Levis. “As we’ve said all along, we’re building the club for not only the short term, but the medium and long term as well,” said Robinson. “We’re excited to continue building our foundation. We’ve brought in a number of players who have contributed greatly to the successes that we have achieved so far. We have a comprehensive plan for 2017 and beyond; changes will be made and players will be brought in to give our fans the team that they deserve.” Assistant coaches Pert and Forrest both joined the first team in January 2014. Hailing from Norfolk, England, Pert had previously served as an assistant coach with English Premier League outfit Cardiff City FC, Football League Championship side Coventry City FC, and the Bahrain senior men’s national team. A graduate of Loughborough University’s Sport & Exercise master’s program, Pert has held head of conditioning/sports science positions with Watford FC, Fulham FC, and Cardiff City FC Forrest joined the club in October 2012 as head coach of the U-18 Residency team and manager of coaching development, before taking on the role as head of high performance - a link from the club's Residency program and Whitecaps FC 2 side to the first team. Prior to joining the club, the Dunfermline, Scotland native spent nearly a decade working in soccer development for New Zealand Football and the Scottish Football Association, as well as a period as the assistant coach of East Fife FC in the Scottish Second Division. Robinson and Pert leave for South America on Thursday to kick off their extensive off-season scouting plans.

I would agree, that of all the Welsh candidates, Robinson has the strongest credentials. He's obviously thought highly of, especially in Osian Roberts' eyes, which will be a big factor in his favour when it comes to deciding on the new manager. I don't know much about his managerial philosophy and tactical approach to things, but if OR doesn't know then no one will.
The only thing I would disagree with is that being passionate about Wales is essential. Being passionate about football, and maximizing the potential of your squad is. I'd much rather appoint a foreigner like Bielsa or Pochettino - who have a passion and intensity about the game than someone who is just passionately Welsh but with little tactical nous. I'm not saying that Robinson doesn't have that nous - I don't know, but we should be looking at a wider field than just passionate Welshmen.
